I’m Kevin Morrison.
I’m the grandson of Italian immigrants and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. My grandparents came to America with almost nothing after my great-grandfather was murdered at the end of World War II.
My grandpa sold vegetables out of a truck in Chicago and used the money he earned to open a snack shop. As the business grew, he bought the restaurant in Norwood Park that my family still owns today.
By the time I was born, my ma and my aunt were running the restaurant. It was rare to see women in charge, especially then. Witnessing the misogyny my mother experienced as a business owner helped inform me of the injustices that still impact so many communities today.
As an LGBTQ+ man, I’ve lived through discrimination, too. I spent years in the closet, and I was bullied in school. For a long time, I didn’t think someone like me could be elected to public office, because I had never seen it.
But I’m running for Congress because I believe everyday people need a voice. I believe that people should be able to work hard and build something lasting, like my grandparents did. I believe that if you work a full day’s work, you ought to earn a living wage. And I believe we must fight hatred and discrimination to make our country more equitable. These are the values I will bring with me every day in Congress.
Kevin’s priorities
Lowering Costs for Families
Families across Illinois feel squeezed – from housing and groceries, to health care and prescription drugs. Kevin will tackle the cost-of-living crisis by standing up to price gouging and to corporate interests.
Defending Rights and Freedoms
As a queer man, Kevin has always stood up for our rights and freedoms. He will fight to protect LGBTQ+ rights, expand voting access, and ensure reproductive freedom for all. Kevin knows that there is so much at stake, and he will be a strong voice for our communities.
Protecting Democracy
Our government should serve us, not powerful oligarchs and corporations. Kevin will fight corruption, instability, and crack down on reckless policies coming from Washington. He will defend democracy and hold leaders accountable, because nobody is above the law.
